Alfa Wing - A3

Progress on the Alfa Wing is moving forward, almost finshed the valkyries.  As I post this I am realizing that I forgot to take pictures of Alfa 1, the command plane of the squadron, d'oh.
As you can see, blue marks the third aircraft, (Alfa 1 is marked red) and I am thinking of yellow for Alfa 2.
With only one more to go, the support squadron is next (two vultures and a vendetta). These will be part of the "Alfa Wing" project but they will have a different identifier (Beta maybe?)
 Until next round, be well.

Alfa Wing - A4 to Base

I finished off the Alfa Wing's second valkyrie, designated Alfa 4.  Six more birds to go!
While looking through the Imperial Armour books I noticed some things about Imperial Navy markings.  Firstly, not all of the markings are in the same places, things like aquillas and squadron numbers are, but not the others.  I also noticed that each plane in a squadron is usually given a colour which corresponds to its position in the squadron.
These birds came in rough shape, this one was the second worse of the batch.  I recommend that the previous owner take some lessons regarding how to assemble a model.  I did what I could, and I think it is passable and table ready, but it has a few problems still.
I just need to finish up those bases, and then it is on to another one!
Until next round, be well.

Alfa Wing - Number Five

And so begins; the Time of Fliers.  This is the first of a squadron of six Imperial Guard aircraft.  Once complete, the squadron will consist of five valkyries and one vulture.  Here is the first one without weathering.
The colour scheme which was chosen is fairly close to the Elysian scheme with a lot of weathering.  I chose to name them the Alfa Wing because "A" is a lot more interesting (and easier) to paint than zeros.
I started with number five so I could nail down the colour scheme on a "lesser" valk, which is better than screwing up the command bird.
All but one of the valkyries were bought second hand and needed some correctional work.  After the build, I have one thing to say to all the hobbyists out there: DO NOT GLUE FLYING STANDS IN WITH HEAPS OF PLASTIC GLUE!!!
Either way, they are mostly assembled now (just waiting for the missing bits) and one other is ready for paint.
I also followed the Elysian flight markings, and played around with some freehand aquillas.
Overall, I like the severely weathered look achieved with the sponging technique.  I might have gone a bit too far with it, but my instructions were to "weather it to sh!t".
That's it for now, back to my brushes.
Until next round, be well.

GottaCon - 2013

Another GottaCon is over, and I'm going to declare it a resounding success!  As I was running some nWo sessions, I only played in the doubles and team tournaments  over at the WarmaHordes tables, here's a peek at the action...
All three games in the doubles Kharchev and I faced double colossal lists.  Those things are hard to take down!  We did manage to win one game, via deathclock, on a tough roll!
I definitely learned a few new tricks, like how the shooty army should go before the assault army, and how annoying stormwalls are in duplicate.
Happily, the armies we played against were superb (the painted ones that is), and the majority of the players were very good sportsmen.

Such pretty stormwalls, and so annoying!
This caught my eye; an ork blimp...yaar!

Took a pic of the demo armies, because I like pink circle....
Yup, another sormwall.  This was during the team tournament, I was lucky to get beaten by some really awesome people.  The Ricalopians did manage to secure the team spirit award, cause we Ricalopians are awesome!  (in your face winners!)
The Iron Arena got lots of play, nearly every time I walked by there was robots and monsters trashing each other on the metal floor.  This made that week of painting completely worth it!
I did not enter anything in the paint competition, I wasn't happy with what was ready.  But there was some really nice minis in there, like this Deathjack.
Blogger, why do you shuffle the pictures?
Gerald Moore took home the large model award with this superb minotaur, I spent at least an hour drooling at it.

I met a couple of bloggers and got recognized by some of the blog's followers which makes me feel like a famous person.  That's right, I'm a geekstar!

Until next round!

I 33 - The n00b

Finished up what might be the last of the 609th's leman russ tanks. This would be the ninth (second exterminator) in the motor pool. It is so new, the crew hasn't named her yet.
A tombstone hangs from the sponson, an armour division joke regarding "steel coffins" and tempting fate. It also has the usual amount of dirt, tank stripes of its division, and a shield designating the forge where the Mk II-VI hull was produced.
What is a little different from its kin are the grey markings and the rust effects, much like Lunchbox. The others will be getting the same treatment over time.
Until next round, be well.

Warp Wednesday 27: Odin Sigma-r37

Getting to know the 609th, the priesthood of the Machine God. The combat-ready maniple known as Odin Sigma-r37 (or Gear-heads to the troops) stand ready to lend the 609th Armour a hand (and servo).
Magos-primaris Diemos maintains all the command codes for the maniple and oversees the well-being of the super heavies. Diemos is seconded by the Inquisition to maintain the health of their land raiders.
Odin Primary's forges are renowned for the quantity and quality of the heavy armour they supply throughout Segmentum Obscurrus, supplying to such chapters as the Flesh Tearers as well as the Inquisition.
Accompanying Diemos are servitors of varying ages, acquired or replaced during his long service record.
Of late, Diemos has been taken to the more aggressive servitor models and riding in the Gorgon super-heavy when his presence is required on the battlefield.
Eldest of Sigma-r37 is Magos Teej, chief of the 609th's motorpool. Such designs as the Mk I-IX 'cityfight' chimera, the MK II-VI 'Odin-alfa' leman russ hull and Mk I-V Hurricane bolters are attributed to his research coven.
Teej views the battlefield as the testing lab for the newest upgrade. The servitors that he brings with him consist of heavy energy weapons and an array of technical servitors.
During the Phasian War, Teej has also taken the OPDF's warmachines under his care. The venerable machines of the defense force have never run better.
Adept Phoboes represents the Cybernetica arm of Odin's preisthood. He designs and maintains the servitors required to preform the 609th's labors. These servitors are spread across the army, from the ships in orbit to the gunners wired into their weapons. Adept Phoboes interacts the most with the Medicae, albeit morbidly.
His personal servitors are all elder models which have been constantly modified on all levels. He prefers to maintain two heavy bolter gunners at all times, to 'delete errors.'
His experiments include controlled mutation, ogryn-modification and the Penance Engine (an engine that consumes half the fuel when supplemented by te agony of an interred heretic).
"Come play with Dolly!" This phrase is often heard being bellowed by Alt-Ogre-Ultima as it leads its fellow ogryn-servitors into battle. The modified creatures have proven to be much more transportable and controllable once the small amount of frontal lobe was replaced.
The ogryn-servitors are used as a solid defense 'plug'. When the armour is threatened, the brutes are sent in to smash the attackers and fill the gap. They can often be found accompanying Diemos in the Gorgon.
And, the obligatory daemon-bunny picture!

Until next round, be well.
