Trolls - With Machine Guns

I think it is a great idea, giving a bunch of drunk trolls machine guns.  What could possibly go wrong?  Besides being a bunch of cool minis, they are perfect for Gunbjorn's list.
If they stay still they get extra shots, making snipe one of their favourite spells.  Although, a rock wall often helps too.
These guys got painted pretty fast.  With all kinds of little details and layers it was hard to keep the paintbrush off them.  It was almost like they wanted to be painted.
One each of them I added a bracer so I could mark their squad badge and identification symbol.  All the squad leaders are signified by an 'x', and being multi-wound models, it corresponds to a mark on the stat card.  This makes life much easier in the middle of combat.
They all got blue kilts, being part of the boss troll's kreil.
The only downside of this unit is the variation of sculpts.  There is the leader and two others, which you get two of.  None of the models are multipart or lend themselves to conversions.  This means you get two sets of twins.  This is often the case with PP, which is too bad given the quality of the models.
On to the rest of the squad...

Until next round, be well.

Cryx - Death Machine Mark II

Every time I go to my FLGS this wraith engine stares at me, sitting lonely on a shelf collecting dust.  After months of feeling sorry for the unbuilt construct, I adopted him.
Since the Cryx army has grown, and my techniques have evolved, the new wraith engine is painted with the new techniques.  This differentiates the two of them, but only slightly.
This one is named Clifford, which is why I painted is shroud bits red.
With two of these monstrosities I am challenging myself to play one game with each caster, of which I have seven.  It will be an interesting set of games...
I really like this model, and having two of them is simply coolness.  The display cabinet agrees.
And a shot of the two of them...
Until next round...

Guild - Gunslinger Construct

This is my brutal effigy; Alfa Trion.  I picked him up because he fit my aesthetic, later to find that he fits a much needed role in melee.
The sculpt was pretty decent, except for the coffin which had a nasty mold line across the wood grain on the sides.  Being a three-piece mini he was simple to assemble.
His lamp allowed me to play with some osl, which was painted green to match the crystals.  I am pretty happy with the glow which I made a crescent shape as no light is spilling from the bottom.
When I fist picked him up I thought he had two legs, then when I assembled him I counted three and named him.  While painting, I spotted a fourth foot, Wyrd minis indeed...
Until next round, be well and keep the violence on the table.

Flesh Tearers - Jump Pack Death Co Finished

The final three Death Company with jump packs are finished, completing the squad at nine psychotic dudes.
Some of the shoulder pads came without an 'x', so a couple of them have been freehanded in.
And here is the whole squad together, this marks the end of Box 1!  Whole army shots soon, I promise.
Until next round, be well.

Trolls - Foots

I often forget to use my feat.  It has happened time and time again.  But no-longer, for I have found a solution!  A wander through the bitz box (on the hunt for something completely different) I struck upon an awesome idea.
Leftover from the plastic GW giant were a couple of feet, too big for most other conversions, but the wheels were turning.  The trolls use barrels (from Pegasus games) to mark their fury, so I attached the feet, some plastic stacks, and hair (for smoke).  After a bit of greenstuff it was good to go.
Now, once per game, my warlock can summon the automated feats to follow them around causing good stuff to happen.
Until next round, be well.

Cult of the Unkind - Engine of Pain

I finally dusted off my dark eldar talos and put some paint on it.  It had been off-and-on the painting desk for a while, with so many details it was a daunting prospect and kept being pushed back.  But after some dedication (and some really awesome inspiration James Wappel and Eye of Error) it is finished.
The new plastic kit is a massive improvement on the old style, both aesthetically and in the range of bits.  Although, I like the fact that they stayed to the scorpion look.  After building this mini I still have enough bits to convert my grotesques!
I used Cryxian arms instead of the regular ones, they fit the look and are much nastier, in my opinion.
All the vials on its butt and hand were tedious, but completely worth it as the effect comes across nicely.
 Enjoy...
 ...until next round...
...be well.

Trolls - Tuffalo Hero

This is Horthol.  For those of you who don't know him, he is the troll dragoon that makes the other tuffalo even better.  Not that tuffalo aren't cool enough.
With each one I paint, I am enjoying it more and more.  (Next up on the desk is a war wagon, that is +2 buffalo for the army!)  As you can see, I added a big keg (from a GW ogre kit), bigger horns (from a GW minotaur) and added height to his base to make him look more important.

Horthol wears a lot of armour, which allowed me to practice my metallic technique.  I basecoat with boltgun metal, do a heavy drybrush of chainmail, and a highlight of mithril.  Once the highlights are in place, I was the upper surfaces with blue wash then the lower areas with dark brown wash.

Since he is a dragoon, he also has his 'on foot' sculpt.  I had a good chuckle when I read that he can only be taken as a dragoon, he is an 18 wound, tough, fast hammer which cannot be ignored.
It was slightly odd painting two of the same mini, with the exception of the buffalo, all of the details are the identical.  I had to fight down my conversion urges when faced by this...
I like the end result, being the first green kilt I painted.  Luckily, the troll army allows me to experiment with different browns, and colours to a degree.  By keeping the skin and metals the same, the army stays cohesive.
Until next round, be well.

Guild - Granny Ortega

The matriarch of the Ortega clan isn't about to let the young 'uns have all the fun shootin' witches an' ne'erborn!  Armed with her deadly shotgun and purse, and clad in her favourite red coat and hat, she is ready to go old school on the bad guys.
For a one-piece mini, I really like the atmosphere of her.  It was a very clean sculpt, with scarce mold-lines, and some fun details without cluttering up her look.  And she giving the "eye"!
It will be fun to put the cankerous old girl onto the table soon!
Until next round!

Flesh Tearers - Jump Pack Death Co. Part 2

I've been quiet lately, but worry not!  My interweb silence is due to much progress on the painting table!  First up; the middle three Death Company.  I am particularly happy with the powerfist osl (the mohawk helps a lot!)
As noticed from the last Flesh Tearer post, I had forgot to do the bone highlight on their skin, that error has been remedied.  The last three are on the table, halfway done already.  It will soon be time for some final touch ups (on the heraldry specifically) and some army shots then off they go.
Until next round, keep painting!
