Guild - Perditia'sRevelation

Redhead gunslinger on nightmare sphinx?  As you wish...
I saved Peditia's avatar for last which was great motivation to finish the whole crew.  This was definitely the most fun Malifaux model I've worked on yet.  The sculpt had no problems (slight flash in hidden places) and went together really easy.
The crystals on the base, supporting the sphinx, were the inspiration for the rest of the crystals on the crew which I think helps to tie them all together.  The avatar also go a whole wheel from the corpse cart sprue for flavour.
I chose dark purple for the beast because I've watched a lot of old cartoons...
I look forward to seeing her on the tabletop, but I haven't been able to manifest her yet.  We will see what fate has to say on that.
Until next round, watch more cartoons!!

Guild - The Ortega Crew

Since they are all finished, here is a shot of the the whole gang together.  Now to find some criminals to shoot....Until next round.

Guild - Some Boomstick

Freshly broken out of the asylum, Papa Loco joins my crew.  I have used him, with much success, as an explosive missile sent at the nasty-looking part of my opponent's crew.  He often takes point.  This completes the first stage of my Guild crew...almost.
I saved him for last, with my ambition to work on him low, until I started putting paint to metal.  He has an orange straightjacket, I pictured him being criminally insane and bailed out (recently) by the rest of the family.  He stands out in the crew, but I think it works.
Not sure why he has a gun since he isn't armed with one...
Until next round, may fate be kind.

Guild - Lead Rain

Another Ortega gets finished, Santiago, leaving only Papa Loco left.  I think this mini came out well, even though it was kind of lacklustre compared to the previous ones.  The pose is fine, it contains enough motion, but I'm left feeling like there is something missing.  That answers why he was at the end of the painting list.
For some strange reason, all of the coat-wearing Ortegas have patches on their trenches.  Same spot, same size.  Can anyone explain this at all? Seems odd is all.
Well, until next round....

Guild - Gunslinger Construct

This is my brutal effigy; Alfa Trion.  I picked him up because he fit my aesthetic, later to find that he fits a much needed role in melee.
The sculpt was pretty decent, except for the coffin which had a nasty mold line across the wood grain on the sides.  Being a three-piece mini he was simple to assemble.
His lamp allowed me to play with some osl, which was painted green to match the crystals.  I am pretty happy with the glow which I made a crescent shape as no light is spilling from the bottom.
When I fist picked him up I thought he had two legs, then when I assembled him I counted three and named him.  While painting, I spotted a fourth foot, Wyrd minis indeed...
Until next round, be well and keep the violence on the table.

Guild - Granny Ortega

The matriarch of the Ortega clan isn't about to let the young 'uns have all the fun shootin' witches an' ne'erborn!  Armed with her deadly shotgun and purse, and clad in her favourite red coat and hat, she is ready to go old school on the bad guys.
For a one-piece mini, I really like the atmosphere of her.  It was a very clean sculpt, with scarce mold-lines, and some fun details without cluttering up her look.  And she giving the "eye"!
It will be fun to put the cankerous old girl onto the table soon!
Until next round!

Ka-tet

Ka-tet, a group with one spirit, fate-bound.  With the completion of Roland, the rifleman ka-tet is complete.  I really enjoyed painting these three between the awesome sculpts and my affection for trenchcoats.
I am very content with the final result of these three (although I'm sure Dave's are going to look much better, can't wait to see them!)  The blue and crystals unite the entire crew, the crystals brightening them up nicely.
I'm over halfway done my current crew and already thinking of what to add next.  I'm thinking of the elite division, teaming Lucius with Perditia, and expanding the Guild.  Although, since the Malifaux plastics are so nice, I'm also thinking about the relic hunters box set (I kinda want to paint a horse and a doggy).  Time will tell...or maybe I'll get both.
I only have five models left, so there is more Guild goodness to come!

Until next round!

Mini Gun and a Bowler Hat

Progress on the Guild continues.  Here is Nino Ortega, the sniper of the family and wearer of short pants.  I am a little vexed about this, but it did give me the opportunity to paint socks!
For some odd reason, he was also hopping about doing a little jig, which wouldn't do for a sniper.  A quick look through the bitz box turned up a couple of wheels (from the death cart I believe), one of which was placed under his foot.  Much better to be using the terrain to steady a shot than doing the hokey-pokey.
As the crew grows I also get in a couple of games here and there (a battle report will be on the RHG blog soon).  In each game Nino's rifle is a game-changer with sixteen inches and a potential four shots in a turn.  The bowler-wearing trencher is going to be a staple in many lists...
I'm pretty content with how these guys are turning out with the osl and odd metallics.  I'm over halfway done the minis I have (soon I'll have to get more...as it is the way it goes).
Until next round!

Purge the Unclean

There are some things that require a crossbow bolt instead of a bullet, Father Helsing attends the Ortegas in a clerical role.  This usually consists of banishing the undead and putting down Neverborn.  Besides, every crew needs an exorcist.

Until next round....

The Law of Steamtown

Leading the Guild forces in Steamtown is the one and only Perdita Ortega.  I always envisioned this mini with red hair, I think it suits her very well and makes her stand out from her crew of trenchers.
I will let the pictures speak for themselves....

Hope you enjoyed, until next round!

Taking Aim

Here is the second rifleman, Alain, and one of the coolest plastic minis I have seen yet.  The detailing is very crisp, with few mold lines and intuitive to assemble.  This mini was a joy to paint up.
His base has the same greenstuff wood as the others as well as an edge and crystals.  To brighten things up I made the crystals glowing and green, I think it works out well.
 "swish"
The pouch, knife and pistol are all separate pieces, and the worst part to deal with, which isn't that bad at all.
So Steamtown's law enforcement force grows, looking forward to having them on the table.  Who doesn't like shooting criminal magi?

Until next round.

Guild Deputy Francisco

Here is the second mini in my Malifaux crew; Francisco Ortega.
I transferred the colour scheme from the rifleman over with the exception of the shirt.  The unique and rare1 minis will have slight variations from the black trenchcoat and blue, but still tie together.
He was a fun mini to paint, even though he is a one-dimensional sculpt.  The cast was pretty good, finely detailed as usual, with few mold lines.
Until next round, keep painting!
