Ogrun bokurs are pretty useful, especially for Cryx, since they bring to the table a couple things they lack in-faction. These being shield guard and focus-free hitting power. It is likely that this guy will be following Hellbringer around.
Until next round, be well.

Khador - A Little Bit of Necromancy
Here is another model for the Northern Army; Alexia. Of all the older Privateer sculpts, this one is one of my favourites.
One of the most fun parts was her sword, which was an attempt at a glowing black blade. It wasn't a complete success, but I am happy with it.
I also gave her a flash of red so she would have some tie-in with the rest of the army, otherwise I took the opportunity to use some colours I don't get to use very often (which is my favourite thing about mercs).
Until next round, stay frosty...

Cephalyx - The Psychic Spider-Squid Army Begins (Slowly)
A while ago, I attended a Steamroller and promptly lost every game. The big prize, a pre-release cephalyx army bundle, was to be raffled off with extra tickets going to the winners. My chances were low, and to my complete surprise, my ticket was drawn!!
Now, months later, I have a painted cephalyx to post; the agitator!!
As you can see, I am going with a dark purple for the robes. The other colours I tried to keep somewhat muted, being used to provide contrast mostly. The most fun part was the bases, I used some zombie bits and water fx (the paste stuff) and a couple of brushloads of varnish after the red paint. The whole army will be wading through pools of gore, yummy.
Until next time, be well.

Trolls - Trolljack Ninja
Tagging along with the Ironmonger is his trusty mule. A fairly decent match for the troll 'marshal, the mule can benefit from his drive and get to shoot and assault. I just got to figure a way to make him Def troll...
The mace needed to be trollfied, so I added the wheels from an old Blood Bowl deathroller(?). I also had to use the pin to straighten out the handle a bit more. Ninja also got a tuffalo shield, Raluk's keg, and ogre bellyplate.
This is the first of two trolljacks, the second one should be posted soon...Until next round, be well.
Trolls - Trolljack Marshal
This mercenary is a strange fellow, but a fun troll to have around. He is the Ironmonger, a 'jack marshal/mechanic that a handful of factions can hire, including trolls. As soon as he was released I knew he had to be in my troll army since I love warjacks and I have a strong affection towards trolls.
Apart from weirding out my opponent when I deploy merc 'jacks beside my dire trolls, he has been really solid on the tabletop. With two heavy 'jacks under his control, I can send him off to clear a zone or hold an objective. Due to his repair ability, his 'jacks are almost as resilient as the other trolls and hit just as hard. Although his awesomeness might just be due to the fact that my dice love him.
His battlegroup will be posted soon; trolljacks!Until next round, be well.

Khador - Black Oil and Smoke
The Northern Army isn't above hiring a couple of shady mercenaries, like Gorman di Wulfe. It makes sense since this guy can be really annoying on the tabletop with his smoke and oil.
This is one of those Warmachine models that is really fun to paint, even though he is a single piece and a static pose. There are a lot of folds (which are always nice to paint) and a few interesting details to bring out the character.
For Gorman, I reversed the colour scheme making the red secondary and bringing the grey up to primary. I think this helps to make him look shady while keeping him withing the established pallet. The greens might show up on future models like widowmakers and other infantry.
Until next round, be well.

Cryx - Guardian for Hire
The ogrun bokur is a model that I have been planning to get for a while. Other things caught my attention, projects arose, and I often forgot to even look for one. At some point I saw him on a shelf and finally picked him up. Then he sat, collecting dust for a little bit, until I finally picked him up to work on him a little bit at a time.
This ogrun will be very useful for my Cryx solos so he can take the hits for them, my skarlocks approve. I haven't used him in a game yet, but I am plotting to soon.
Like most of my mercenaries, I deviated from the standard scheme of the hiring army. I felt like playing with some greens and applying multiple layers (which only partially worked out).
Until next round, be well.

Trolls - Mekanikal Help
I picked up the gobber tinker as soon as I found out about Raluk, the Ironmonger. With a 'jack marshal in the army I would be needing someone to help repair the trolljacks and war wagon.
Also, this model is incredibly neat. I play Infernal Contraption as much as I can, and this guy looks like he came straight out of that crazy game. (If you haven't picked it up yet do so...now!) The assembly was bit annoying since you have to balance it just right, and fit things just right, and fiddle with it a bit to make it all fit. But once it is together it loves the paintbrush.
Like with most mercenaries I paint, I diverted from the standard colour scheme a bit. I kept the metallics and wood the same, which ties him in with the rest of the army combined with the base. Sadly, Hoggle the tinker often gets killed before doing anything very useful, it's like nobody wants me to repair anything.....
Until next round, be well.

Trolls - Foots
I often forget to use my feat. It has happened time and time again. But no-longer, for I have found a solution! A wander through the bitz box (on the hunt for something completely different) I struck upon an awesome idea.
Leftover from the plastic GW giant were a couple of feet, too big for most other conversions, but the wheels were turning. The trolls use barrels (from Pegasus games) to mark their fury, so I attached the feet, some plastic stacks, and hair (for smoke). After a bit of greenstuff it was good to go.
Now, once per game, my warlock can summon the automated feats to follow them around causing good stuff to happen.
Until next round, be well.

Mercenary Trolls
The troll army started with these chaps, the original sons of Bragg, Boomhowler and Company. This was the first batch of trolls due to them being mercs, and they accept payment in ale.
Boomhowler has proven his usefulness multiple times, not for hitting anything, but for bogging down enemy troops. His unit is a tarpit anyone can hire (almost).
I decided that all the trolls who trace their lineage to the great fellcaller wear the red tartans and have an affinity for brass armour.
There is a distinct lack of sculpts for this unit, complicated by the lack of pieces. More bits would allow more variations, which is something the mutlipart plastic kits have right. My plan for the next four is to mix bits with kriel warriors and such.
Of course, this doesn't mean they aren't fun minis. Like true mercs, they each carry a small keg and those guns scream close combat.
That's it for now......until next round.

He Wanders, He Drinks
The trolls needed some Irish, and I think Gundrun the Wanderer fits the bill. Being a binge-drinker he should get along well, and besides, he brought his own liquor!
This mini almost painted itself having such a wicked sculpt. I also think I've nailed down the wine-bottle-effect. This ogre pops up occasionally in both my armies (he goes well in the "living Cryx" list), I think mercenaries are a great way to spice up the various factions without just having allies.
Some readers may have noticed the new look. How do you like it? Too busy or made of win?
Until next round...

Two Angry Piggies
Like the gators earlier, these two are a thank you present for an enemy of mine. Since I have some awesome friends, I am placing a spy in each of their armies. These pigs are going to my Khadorian friend Jordan. Now there are claims of a "Year of the Pig" from his desk....
The black-clad freak asked for some industrial themed pigs, as though they were going to go see Combichrist.
Lots of black and some hazard stripes. I went with dark red hair to tie in with the Khador jacks and add a bit of colour.
And then there's the big pig....
His snout was miscast, so I painted it scabbed over, poor guy smells bacon all the time now.
Keeping a lot of area black sped up the painting and contrasts the skin tone well (imho).
Hope it made your eyeballs happy, until next round!
