Alfa Wing - A3

Progress on the Alfa Wing is moving forward, almost finshed the valkyries.  As I post this I am realizing that I forgot to take pictures of Alfa 1, the command plane of the squadron, d'oh.
As you can see, blue marks the third aircraft, (Alfa 1 is marked red) and I am thinking of yellow for Alfa 2.
With only one more to go, the support squadron is next (two vultures and a vendetta). These will be part of the "Alfa Wing" project but they will have a different identifier (Beta maybe?)
 Until next round, be well.

Alfa Wing - A4 to Base

I finished off the Alfa Wing's second valkyrie, designated Alfa 4.  Six more birds to go!
While looking through the Imperial Armour books I noticed some things about Imperial Navy markings.  Firstly, not all of the markings are in the same places, things like aquillas and squadron numbers are, but not the others.  I also noticed that each plane in a squadron is usually given a colour which corresponds to its position in the squadron.
These birds came in rough shape, this one was the second worse of the batch.  I recommend that the previous owner take some lessons regarding how to assemble a model.  I did what I could, and I think it is passable and table ready, but it has a few problems still.
I just need to finish up those bases, and then it is on to another one!
Until next round, be well.

Alfa Wing - Number Five

And so begins; the Time of Fliers.  This is the first of a squadron of six Imperial Guard aircraft.  Once complete, the squadron will consist of five valkyries and one vulture.  Here is the first one without weathering.
The colour scheme which was chosen is fairly close to the Elysian scheme with a lot of weathering.  I chose to name them the Alfa Wing because "A" is a lot more interesting (and easier) to paint than zeros.
I started with number five so I could nail down the colour scheme on a "lesser" valk, which is better than screwing up the command bird.
All but one of the valkyries were bought second hand and needed some correctional work.  After the build, I have one thing to say to all the hobbyists out there: DO NOT GLUE FLYING STANDS IN WITH HEAPS OF PLASTIC GLUE!!!
Either way, they are mostly assembled now (just waiting for the missing bits) and one other is ready for paint.
I also followed the Elysian flight markings, and played around with some freehand aquillas.
Overall, I like the severely weathered look achieved with the sponging technique.  I might have gone a bit too far with it, but my instructions were to "weather it to sh!t".
That's it for now, back to my brushes.
Until next round, be well.
