Dark Eldar - The Iron Thorn

Another batch of minis done!  This time I got to paint up some sweet dark eldar on bases made from coolness.
The archon, mostly plastic with some finecast bits.  I like this pose a lot.  Not only is he standing on some elevation, but the model itself is still standing straight.  Always something to keep in mind with epic basing.

The venoms, with magnetized gunners.  As is usual for eldar, lots of line-highlights.

And the two five-xenos warrior squads.  Each warrior has a turquoise shoulder pad to differentiate between units.
Until next round, be well.

The Unkind - Dr. Master

This was an interesting and anticipated addition to the cult.  At first, I was really liking the new Urien sculpt, having had the old one.  Then I realized it was in finecast, so I first picked up the other doctor to see how the materiel was.  I'm not going to lie, I hate the feel of finecast and would rather work with almost any other medium, but I had very few troubles with this guy.  Perhaps it was due to our previous partnership, or that I waited long enough for them to iron out the casting issues, or both.
I plan to return to the cloak with some freehand...eventually.
I haven't posted much, and the finished minis are piling up (Urien was finished months ago...) but I am going to try to get the others up soon.
Until next round....

The Unkind - With Hook and Blade

Some dark eldar have been doing time on the painting desk lately, like this venom.  It gets to ferry around one of the warrior squads and provide them with some fire support.
I like how they stayed close to the vyper's look, with extra blades.  On this one I tried out some osl on the guns and engine.
It is a fun model to take pictures of too!
I wasn't too keen on the extra dudes hanging on to the sides, and the transport area looks a little small.  I still like the space-chariot feel though.
 Until next round...
...be well.

Cult of the Unkind - Engine of Pain

I finally dusted off my dark eldar talos and put some paint on it.  It had been off-and-on the painting desk for a while, with so many details it was a daunting prospect and kept being pushed back.  But after some dedication (and some really awesome inspiration James Wappel and Eye of Error) it is finished.
The new plastic kit is a massive improvement on the old style, both aesthetically and in the range of bits.  Although, I like the fact that they stayed to the scorpion look.  After building this mini I still have enough bits to convert my grotesques!
I used Cryxian arms instead of the regular ones, they fit the look and are much nastier, in my opinion.
All the vials on its butt and hand were tedious, but completely worth it as the effect comes across nicely.
 Enjoy...
 ...until next round...
...be well.

More Warriors, More Pain

Here is my second squad of warriors, the mostly female close combat unit.  I plan on adding one warrior to each unit and giving them a venom to ride on.  Like the other unit of warriors, this unit will used to support other units when they charge, like the wracks and grotesques.
The sybarite, with agonizer and grenades.

Although the rifles will be rarely used (likely from the back of the venom), the shredder will...

Well that was a quick post wasn't it?
Until next round.

The Unkind Doctor

The Kabal of the Unkind (very) slowly grows.  One of the newest additions is the Haemonculis Ancient, Ulycis.
He was made from the standard mini, with arm swaps (talos kit) and a head swap (venom kit).  There are a couple extra vials added (from the talos kit as well).  I liked the mini, but not the hugging....
This was the first finecast I have fully painted and I still prefer metal.  There was only one big bubble, which I may yet still fix, and nothing else wrong with it, just the weight.  It doesn't feel like a model to the hand, it feels too light.
I continued with the electric blue color, with the addition of some lighter green and purple skin tone.  I selected the accent colors (green, purple, turquoise) because they were part blue themselves and keep a cohesive look.
My apologies for the bout of silence on the blogosphere, it happens.  The good part is that I have a ton of posts on the way, stay tuned.

Until next round...

Tidings

The Kabal is growing, slowly. The bitz are gathering, the overseers are rising.
This year, the dark kin will receive some time on the Project Table, in due time.
The break in the tube will be fixed with some inventive gluing.
The Kabal will consist of Urien and his three apprentices, accompanied by their wracks and grotesques, flying raiders. Two squads of scourges and four venom-mounted warriors will give the webway portals covering fire. The beasts, chronos and talos, will exit these portals along side the evil clown carnival. Fast support will be provided by the troupe's jetfighter and jetbikes. A complete force-org of scary carnies.
The talos in question. His new arms just seemed right.
Until next round, beware of trolls.

Failed My Eldar Save

The Cult of the Unkind has begun. If you follow this blog already, it is easy to tell that I love the eldar range, but we will start at the beginning. The dark eldar was my first 40k army, they were evil and elven and the background was....we will say inspiring.
Years passed, and so did the Kabal, and I eventually moved on to craftworlders, templars, then the Imperium, and the evil space elves were lost to time. (I am only counting the armies that became playable forces, there were a ton of others...) Life was a youthful mess, and when it stabled out, I started collecting eldar again. As we know, GW re-vamped the dark kin, but I resisted. I was holding out to some misguided notion of eldrich 'good'. As you can see, I finally caved in.
I think what broke me was the venom and talos kits. With the new codex, it is even more feasible to mount a small, swift and deadly army of nightmares. The army will begin with two five-man units of warriors in venoms, five grotesques and nine wracks in raiders, two flights of five scourges, all lead by a couple of hamonculi. And of course, a talos and a chronos. I am not too fond of the new grotesques, wracks or hamonculus, and until I see them in person, I will be planning some sik conversions.
These five are the first unit of the "House Guard" of the Cult. The Unkind, as the enlightened among you will already know, is a cult devoted to the god of ambition known as Nekra to some, Eldor to others, and is always identified with the sigil of the burning/crying eye. This ambition transcends concerns of the flesh, reducing it to a medium through which the soul can achieve. Although most of Apseraph's civilians are unaware of the cult, it does have a seat at the craftworld's governing council. The Unkind are unleashed only upon deserving foes of Apseraph, they are their hidden army.
Until next round, be well.

Rocket Clown ~ The Second

The blue clown, or clown number two, is table ready. There was an attempt to keep a color theme going with them, with white symbols.
The blue lines from the mime was turned into the main color of the bike, then orange squiggly lines were added. This means that the next rocket clown will be primarily orange, the problem is, what color to make the sqigglies.
I also have to figure out what the white design will be on the third (keeping in mind that the third one is the troupe master).
These are the things that keep me up at night. Have a good one,
Ricalope.
