Hordes of Chaos - The Cartouchii

"Those who bear the royal name of Tzeentch."
My chaos warriors get a boost in the form of a unit of chosen and their very own sorceror.  They are all metal, making it a very heavy unit, which gave me a good reason to try out some new movement trays.  The new trays are made out of some plastic card and plastic strips (Evergreen 188 is the same height as a regular base).  The cork just wasn't working, it was too thick, too wide, and looked bad.  The cork will likely end up as rubble on some terrain somewhere.
I painted the chosen to match the chaos knights with rich blue armour, magic-y red blades and lots of gold.  This creates a visual link between the two most favoured units of the bird-god.
The original standard was really short and could barley be seen when in the unit so I had to change it for a better one.  The old one is destined for a hellcannon.  Also, the champion's helmet was swapped for the Tzeentchy helmet from the chaos marine box so he could have a third eye.

Also, most of my units have an attached character, for the chosen I picked the Gamesday sorceror which came with the big box of goodies.
Long have I coveted this mini.
I put so freehand mathematics on his cloak, as he practices offensive numerology.  The staff top was swapped out with an ushabti blade to continue the Egyptian flavour.  I might be starting to run out which means I might need to pick up some of those fancy Khemri plastic kits soon!
Until next round, be well and worship chaos.

Hordes of Chaos - The GWF Champion

This is Eddy, chaos giant of Tzeentch and founder of the Giant Wrestling Federation.
Ages ago, when I first got hired as a part-timer at my local GW, I was given a giant kit.  It was new (a month before release) and I was tasked to create a chaos version for the store.  A week later this monstrosity took his spot on the display case.
Our store needed a fantasy-themed event to bolster our store numbers, so I recommended a sport-night in the spirit of Bloodbowl.  We held weekly matches, with slightly tweaked rules.  Matches would be held simultaneously on one table, and each giant (or shaggoth, treeman, etc) would have an opponent worth more points than the other.  Terrain could be used as weapons, or thrown, and sometimes eaten.  Giants would earn cash to buy items (like bags of sheep), cheerleaders, and agents (heroes who could help out).
The matches continued as more giants tested themselves, (and the volume level soared, much to the dismay of the fantasy players).  But it was a success, we had more gamers on fantasy night and the giant sales went through the roof.
 Yes, Eddy has a Daisy-chain...
We held tag-team matches, ring matches and even hardcore matches (those that took place in normal fantasy games).  But as all things do, the GWF fell into history.  Eddy still gets out though, pillaging the odd Empire town with the chaos warriors and beasts.
Until next round, be well.

Hordes of Chaos - Tzaanitekis and The Princes of Magog

There is an ancient tale of the Legions of Gog and Magog, daemonic hordes that roamed the lands of men before the counting of years.  The legions were trapped behind mountainous gates by a certain emperor of men, but their spoor carries on.  The bloodlines of Magog are favoured by Lord Tzaanitekis, and those who prove themselves worthy may ride at his side.  The Princes are known throughout the lands of the Empire and dwarfs for being unstoppable killers.
The original regiment of five was bolstered, and after careful counting, grew to a twelve-strong unit of chaos knights.  I touched up the veterans a little, but not by much.  The new recruits were already painted quite well by the hobbyist I inherited them from.  (If you know Pauly, you would know the awesome he puts into his models, and he is one of the people I have had the pleasure to learn from.)  I switched up the standard and musician and put some blue on the armour plates.  All the weapons were repainted to have a dark/glowing/magical effect.
The few games I have played have seen the 13 destroy everything they touch, and trees being the few reliable things to take any down.  I equip them with the banner that grants a ward save against shooting and magic so if the armour fails Tzeentch may be favourable to them (and often is!)
The command section.  It seems that the champion rarely gives any orders, although the knights are a superfluous bodyguard, but they can still be nasty without the lord.
And I will part with a couple of shots of Lord Tzaanitekis, the Prophet of the Bird-God, Slayer of Cities, and The Heir of Magog.
Until next round, paint and game!!

Hordes of Chaos - Two of a Kind

Of the recent additions to the chaos horde, a second shaggoth has been added to the glorious host.  The new one, Garth, sports two hand weapons made from minotaur axes and his old two-handed one he came with.
The shaggoth is a great model, especially for when it was sculpted, but he is rather....flat.  It would be really difficult to change his pose without some serious sawing and putty.  He is still a big scary model though!

And here is Shaggy, my first shaggoth.
 And the two together.....
Until next round, be well.

Hordes of Chaos - The Lil Bastard and His Cult

Fel Ur Ket are the three names given to the Lord's proxy.  The three headed sorceror leads the horde in the Lord's absence, much to the regrets of the Empire.  In human lands he is known simply as the "Lil Bastard", which amuses him greatly.
Fel Ur Ket now has a full unit of warriors to catch cannon balls for him, numbering 23 (a holy number to the bird-god, and divinely lucky).
I opt for my Tzeentchian warriors to have to weapons, to maximize their high-than-average strength.  With their mark and chaos armour, they are still pretty resilient, which is what a purely combat army needs.

This mini was the first time I experimented with NMM, I don't think it turned out well.  The greys look fine, and I am happy with how it looks, but it doesn't look metal.
 Until next round...
...be well.

Hordes of Chaos - Release the Hounds

It seems that chaos is in ascendant, the glorious host of the magical bird god has nearly doubled in size with the arrival of two batches of previously owned chaos mortals.  With these new additions most of my cults (regiments) can be increased to their holy numbers and some new subservient cults will arise.  My host, previously of a very monotheist nature, will soon include devotees of Khorne and Nurgle.  (The cult of the Fly Lord has already begun, see earlier posts.)
To start this new glorious age of chaos, I started with the new hounds.  The Pack started with a bunch of kroot hounds, due to their beaky nature, with some added tails and fur.  For some reason I only modified half of them, but painted them all, it was a long time ago after all.  Recently added to their numbers was a batch of new plastic hounds, which I mixed in.
The alfa hounds are some old non-GW sculpts, like Reaper's cerebus (the three-headed puppy), but I don't know where the other two are from.  They work well as unit leaders since they are notably different.  As the cults grow to their full size, the older members will get updated.  This includes battle damage (like broken horns and such), I am not going to replace anything but paint in their wounds, thus the occasional missing horn.
Until next round, praise chaos.

Gustius, Hellcannon of Tzeentch

All hail the magical bird-god!  Some time ago, a large portion of chaos followers came into my possession (and the space-elves flew off elsewhere).  Amid the pile of random plastic and metal was this hefty pewter monstrosity.
My chaos lord, Tzaanateclis, was very keen to have a hellcannon in his possession so he took his horde into the frozen wastes to seek out the chaos dwarves.  He met them upon the field of battle and as he emerged victorious he demanded a hellcannon made.
The daemon Gustius was summoned and bound by the dwarves' fell magiks, at the cost of many more lives.  Gustius, and a crew of chaos dwarf engeneers, was gifted to Lord Tzaanateclis.  Appeased, the horde moved on to seek more battles.
Gustius was painted similar to the rest of the horde, with blues and gold.  Black was used on the majority of the metal to make the steel show brighter.  The steel was also done different to the usual way; boltgun metal, devlan mud wash (lower areas) and thrakka green (upper surfaces).
The flames and skulls were originally going to glowing blue, then I thought that adding some green would look good after scrolling through blogger.  It turned out well, I think.
The beasty was already glued to a movement tray, which was a great idea, so I based around where the crew would go.  Chains, a pile of skulls, cork, textured plasticard, and a Khemri banner rounded the whole thing off.
Of course, no artillery/monster would be complete without the crew, and face it, chaos dwarves are awesome!
Until next round...

Sorcerer of Tzeentch

A long time ago, when Storm of Magic came out, I realized that my Tzeentchian horde only had a single spellcaster. This was because when I made my army the holy mark of the god of magic turned my champions into wizards. This is no longer the case.
This is my second sorcerer, but unlike Fel-Ur-Ket, this one was born from the bitz box. He is a true son of Tzeentch.

Only afterwards did I realize that he will have issues standing in units, oh well.
Dryad armour = win.
Until next round.
